Terrorism experts predicted it for a very long time. It happened in a nightclub in Orlando. 50 dead, more perhaps to expire.  The identified killer reportedly used an AR15 type rifle on the helpless victims in this gun-free zone hunting preserve for psychopathic murderers.  This one claimed he did it for ISIS, and ISIS has apparently confirmed that.

Naturally, our President and the presumptive Democrat nominee call for gun bans for law-abiding citizens and assiduously avoid mentioning radical Islamic terrorism.

There are many unanswered questions yet, and much information to come.  There will be calls for universal background checks, even though the monster in this case had been a licensed armed security guard and was checked out extensively by FBI, who found no reason to detain or disarm him, so UBCs could not possibly have changed things in this tragic matter.

Our hearts go out to victims, and our condolences go out to their bereaved next of kin.  We witness monumental stupidity among the talking heads.  One interviewer hears the plaintive, tearful words of a man looking desperately among the dead and wounded for his missing friend, and then asks him, “Has the reality of it hit you yet?”

Good Lord.

It is said that “gun control” is a 10-80-10 issue: Ten percent hard-line anti-gunners who will never change their views, ten percent of us pro-gun owners’ rights people who are unlikely to change ours either, and 80% of the voters in the middle. Perhaps the blatant superficiality of the gun-banners who ignore the giant, evil elephant in the room will finally become apparent to the Eighty Percent who are watching the aftermath unfold now.

An entity as powerful and wealthy as ISIS could not have funneled true assault rifles to a jihadi in America who couldn’t access weapons on his own? Did the strict gun control of France and India failed to prevent the similar atrocities recently in Paris, and in Mumbai before that? Hopefully, this is a reality the Eighty Percent will no longer be able to ignore.

Let us mourn for the innocent dead, donate blood for the innocent wounded, and console their grieving loved ones, and finally awaken our nation to the realities of stopping force with force, not empty symbolism and rhetoric.

Your opinions are welcome here, where I suspect we will be discussing this more for a while as the investigation reveals more information.

  1. My feeling is that this will be old news, nearly forgotten, within the confines of the work week ahead.

Reason: Shooter Muslim. Jihadi. Background checked, FBI interviewed, watch-listed/de-listed, with guns legally purchased and governmentally licensed.

Not only that but as the child of immigrant parents this again disproves the modern notion of generational assimilation into the broader American culture is always assured, given today’s brand of Islamic radicalism. What was once true (Immigrants wanting to be Americans first) is probably not true anymore. Superficially, they seem to want to be what the were before, with all it’s culture and rules, just in a new place.Current fundamentalist Islamic indoctrination cannot be overcome by TV and milkshakes.

The media, and the left, do NOT want this understood by the masses, so they will let it go. The LGBT movement might try to hang onto it awhile, but seeing that the were abandoned by their “friends”, they too will let it go.

Pro gun folks will be happy to see it disappear as well. I’m not so sure they should be. Not this time. The threat is here, and now. There may well be more to be gained by keeping this event in the front of peoples minds this time, and actively reaching out to the LGBT community and offering them the correct alternative to victimhood via wanton slaughter.

  2. http://qz.com/578052/this-is-how-isis-inspires-its-followers/

Only watch that if you’re comfortable watching ~3 people just going about their day suddenly get executed on video.

And then realize that that’s the level of awareness at which this movement operates.

    They’re completely fine DOING that.

Their message is essentially “Be angry & take it out on the world/people we’ve dehumanized”

If the only message the West continues to push is “ummm don’t be mad/be mad at [pariah of the moment] but don’t kill anyone” then we’ll continue to lose this fight.

Because those are OUR values. And historically relatively fucking new ones at that.

What if the target audience responds to different stimuli, based on their dissimilar ethnic/cultural heritage to us?

At what point is it literally racist to ignore this fact? (Cough) (cough) (taharrush)

But living in Maryland for 20+ years, I’ve come to see, process, and accept that The State Of Maryland doesn’t care if I live. It’s not built to. If it did, self defense laws would be very different.
But bc it’s been here long before me & will probably remain long after I’m gone, I’m totally unimportant to its concerns.
Hopefully I don’t get pistol whipped 8x by a 17 year old (again)

And hopefully he like gets… rehabilitated …by spending 7 years in Baltimore’s prison system???

People, even when not actively beheading their enemies, love control. So OF COURSE gun bans sound great!!! More people doing what I tell them to!!! Because I have blanket answers to complex questions, Goddammit!!

These assorted phenomena explain to me why the global/political community prefers to build monuments to victims of needless death, than empower/assist them to defend themselves in the moment.
(See construction the Natl Holocaust Memorial while ignoring Hotel Rawanda)((see sending boats back to Germany and then lying about it in The King’s Speech))

But the political mechanism is important bc without it all we have is violence. But true democracy is frightening so thankfully we have systemic bulwarks designed into our process.

I take a large degree of comfort in the fact that our executive officer can’t really do much (except Jackson ?) bc Stalin took a country from farms to space in one generation, at the cost of millions of lives.

So I just do my part and ignore their ranting. Your mileage may vary.

Hope you have a great day, thanks for letting me talk.

  3. On a recent blog, Mas pointed out several cases where gun knowledge was useful. Some of the comments on that blog, including one of mine, noted the extreme ignorance that the gun grabbers and the news media have when it comes to the topic of firearms.

As I watched the coverage of this tragic event, that was sure evident in today’s news commentary. In fact, if it had not been so inappropriate, given the serious nature of this attack, I would have laughed out loud as members of the news media made one ridiculous statement after another concerning firearms.

As I was in the act of turning off the TV (in disgust I must admit), one commentator was stressing that the terrorist used an extremely “high powered” rifle in this attack. I briefly reflected on what Jeff Cooper would have said, had he still been alive, to the description of a .223 AR as a particularly “high powered” weapon! As I recall, his favorite term for this rifle was “Poodle Shooter”. It was only grudgingly that he conceded that the 7.62X51 NATO (AKA 308) round was adequate!

These people don’t know a high-powered rifle from a golf club! If the terrorist had truly used a “high-powered” rifle, more than 50% of his victims would not still be alive. I thank God that it was only a “Poodle Shooter” that was used by this terrorist murderer and not something worse!

  4. A state like Arizona, with constitutional firearms carry, as well as permitted carry in alcohol consumption venues (as long as the bearer is not consuming alcohol), is increasingly less likely to see shooting attacks like the one in Orlando. We have a number of well-regulated sheepdogs around that are willing to confront insanity head-on, anyplace, anytime. Every other state ought to get on board.

Let us not give an inch to the timid gun-grabbers, who don’t have the courage or good sense to admit that a right is a right, and can’t see that an armed citizenry is essential to confronting treason and defeating tyranny.

  5. I live nearby and am very surprised there has not been an incident of terrorism, lone wolf or otherwise, at Walt Disney World. True there is a sheriff’s office presence there and Disney employee (“cast member”) “search” of bags, but it wouldn’t take much to bring weapons in if one were dedicated to doing so. It makes me wonder if the targeting of the club was directed or a decision of the perpetrator. I think probably the latter.

I also believe it was self-targeted because he apparently bought the weapons himself.

Either way, a target-rich and defenseless environment is very easy to find around here, despite, as you know, pretty decent firearms laws. I personally chose not to carry in the Disney parks before it was ever a real issue simply because there are almost no occasions where I felt I had a safe zone in which to fire, particularly in Magic Kingdom. In some places it would be difficult to have room to even draw a weapon safely much less fire it. That is one reason I haven’t been inside a park for entertainment in almost 2 years.

I expect we will see renewed efforts to further limit the tools to protect myself while doing little or nothing to narrow the range of tools my potential attackers will have, efforts which will solve exactly nothing.

  6. I just found out about this, since I work 3rd shift. It sounds to me like this guy is part of a sleeper cell. How can a person tell the difference? Gun free zones don’t work.

  7. It is insane to think that the best response to the slaughter of unarmed citizens is to disarm more citizens.

Gun control isn’t about guns, it’s about trust — and it’s generally true that those who trust the least are usually the least trustworthy. Those who want to disarm every citizen simply do not trust the average, decent, law abiding person to act responsibly. It’s a clear disconnect from the belief that people can be self-governing.

The belief that the people in power, whether it be the elected elite, monarchs, or oligarchs know better than the common man and woman how a society ought to be ruled is an offensive and heinous idea to those of us who believe in personal and responsible liberty — those of us that believe that our neighbors can be trusted to be a partner in a civilized society.

Certainly a rational and educated person understands that not all individuals can be trusted. That is why so of us go quietly about our business with a legally concealed firearm on our person. We all hope we will never need to use it. I hope I will never need to use my fire extinguishers, car air bags, or accident insurance either.

Unfortunately, there is a huge amount of denial within that middle spectrum of the population who are neither gun opponents nor supporters. Denial seems to give many of them a psychological “out” if a tragedy occurs to them personally. They would rather be seen as a trusting victim (which is a serious mental disconnect) allowing them to place the responsibility for their fate on the aggressor.: “It’s the guy (criminal) with the gun that’s at fault, I am not to blame.” But what good is being blameless (and getting all that sympathy) when you become severely injured or killed at the hands of a madman or criminal?

We have two huge problems in America that urgently need to be addressed: violence and terrorism. As long as politicians and the press keep saying “gun-violence” is the problem instead of just “violence” we will accomplish nothing, and as long as we deal with terrorism without viewing it through the lens of culture, it will increase.

  8. I know you will get back to us when the information is available and give us a complete run down of what happened. My only “concern” is the 3 hour delay between the beginning of the shooting and SWAT finally entering.

  9. Hello Massad I have read your column for years now. Agree that gun free zones are “hunting preserve for psychopathic murderers”. Donald Trump is the only candidate to have previously pledged to end gun free zones if he becomes President. Would you care to comment on the curious fact that just like in the Columbine shooting the shooter engaged a LEO officer, exchanged gunfire with him and then entered the club. Said LEO officer like Columbine elected not to pursue the shooter inside and engage him instead waiting for backup. The “SWAT Team” sat outside for three hours while the gunman killed >50 plus people before deciding the enter and engage (a fact only lightly touched on by the media). Why the lack of media interest in this? Probably the reason for the high body count (besides the gun free zone disarming the bar patrons)

  10. Now that someone who has provable ties to ISIS (a radical MUSLIM terror organization) has murdered people in a gay nightclub *because* they gay, I wonder if those doing backflips and contortions to say “it’s not about Islam” wil change their tune. After all, the number one most important political matter in today’s day and age is sexual orientation, and the worst crime that can be committed is a crime done out of “homophobia”, right?

BTW, my MIL and I, who total disagree on many political matters (especially guns) could not disagree with me that a gun was not the problem this time, but religious fanaticism.

  11. My cousin on vacation in Orlando also said that the cell phones seemed to be jammed. He had bars, but could not dial out. He had problems tweeting Ect. It would be interesting to see if this was a move by law enforcement or something else was going on.

  12. The 10-80-10 ratio Mas mentioned is probably true and I would expect, as the years (if we actually have years left) go by, the anti’s will grow in number due to the steady indoctrination taking place. I was shocked to learn that a couple of my heroes, Gen.’s Petraeus and McChrystal have joined in on the “common sense gun control” bandwagon.
    http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jun/10/david-petraeus-mark-kelly-reduce-gun-violence-military-veterans-launch-initiative

Being a retired LEO, something that has been troubling to me, as the current events are unfolding, is how quickly local law enforcement will be overwhelmed, given an easily planned combination of incidents. Consider Cleveland and the upcoming Republican Convention. Having experienced one of these, and seeing our entire 3,000 person department on 12 on/12 off shifts (my unit was actually 16 on/8 off) for two weeks, supplemented by state and county officers, working in coordination with the Secret Service, just to handle the demands of the task at hand. Now, consider the chaos if you threw in a couple of mass casualty terror attacks in the same city, coinciding with the already planned civil disobedience at the convention. Do these concerns of mine sound baseless, or do they spell a disaster in the making?

  13. > the only candidate

Fine words for electioneering on, but a President doesn’t have that kind of authority.

It’s just empty rhetoric, like cleaning up crime, fixing the schools, balancing the budget, paying off the national debt, or rebuilding the economy.

  14. This is a nightmare. Americans need to reevaluate existing gun laws and face the reality that we are at war within the United States. Laws that limit concealed carry, rifle design or magazine capacity must be repealed (or at least ignored)

  15. I am watching FoxNews now. I don’t mean to make light of this massacre, but it’s too bad the media won’t give this much coverage to a typical Chicago weekend slaughter.

  16. I’ve seen comments on various web sites and blogs, including Gay Patriot, saying that this tragedy should be a wake-up call for the LGBT community. But American gays (and women) have made a Faustian bargain with the Democrats, and it may be too late to back out of it. “The government will allow freedom of choice in your bedroom, but only in the bedroom. Everywhere else, you must submit to total government control.” So gays and liberals will continue to support the party that brings in 250,000 homophobic misogynist immigrants each year.

Not that the Republicans are much better. Most of them follow the PC party line, too. The terrorists are not really Islamic, Islam is a peaceful religion, blah blah blah. Meanwhile, ISIS has officially claimed responsibility for the Orlando rampage.

A former co-worker said that the shooter had previously made threats and had acted suspiciously, but his employers did not take any action, because they feared accusations of racism and Islamophobia. As in San Bernardino, political correctness kills.

Of course, the usual suspects (Obama, Clinton, Sanders, the media) are blaming the NRA, and are exploiting the mass murder to promote their anti-gun agenda. Never let a good tragedy go to waste.

  17. Atrocity was an apt description for this event. 🙁 Consenting adults should be able to lead their lives however they want without fear of being murdered.

Full details of what occurred will, hopefully, come to light when the dust settles.

TN-MAN . . . err . . . you are aware that one of the tests on the “poodle shooter” was being able to shoot through both sides of an M1 helmet at 400 yards?

  18. @uncle – something to keep in mind is that cell signal and availability can be negatively impacted by a large concentration of devices in a small area. Especially if there aren’t enough towers or other infrastructure support around.

At many concerts and clubs you can see the problem you describe for this reason.

  19. Gun free zones are targets. I go to the VA and wonder when it will happen in one of these facilities.

  20. As terrible as the mass Orlando shooting was, I think Americans should be prepared for more of the same because of our country’s continued misadventures (i.e., U.S. drone assassinations; reckless arrests, renditions and torture; civilian “collateral damage,” etc.) in the Middle East and North Africa which continue to inflame not just ISIS but mainstream Muslims, too.

If the U.S. is really serious about its national security then totally withdrawing our military and civilian security people from those troubled areas and staying out of their politics might lessen future blowback on our country.

  21. uncle dave;
Having worked in the communications industry for 45 years I can tell you that any time there is a major event the phone lines (wired and wireless) become over crowded. While you may have unlimited data, there are still only a finite number of connections before the system is unable to handle the volume of calls.

  22. Obama’s reaction to this latest attack (courtesy of the “religion of peace”) should surprise no one. After 9/11, the then unknown Illinois State Senator wrote:

The essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers: an inability to imagine, or connect with, the humanity and suffering of others. Such a failure of empathy, such numbness to the pain of a child or the desperation of a parent, is not innate nor, history tells us, is it unique to a particular culture, religion, or ethnicity. It may find expression in a particular brand of violence and may be channeled by particular demagogues or fanatics. Most often, though, it grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair. … [W]e will have to devote far more attention to the monumental task of raising the hopes and prospects of embittered children across the globe – children not just in the Middle East, but also in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and within our own shores.

I submit that if jihadis exploded a nuclear weapon in the US and killed hundreds of thousands, Obama (and Hillary) would blame it on America and STILL not utter the words “Islam” and “terror” in the same sentence.

  23. Uncle Dave,
Jamming is not needed, nor is it likely what happened. Only so many cell phones can connect to a given cell tower at a time. In an event like this, even people not directly involved will want to call a loved one to let them know they are alright. And the Towers just can’t handle it.

For when it happens to any of you, have a backup plan. I have my amateur Radio license and frequently have those radios with me. Another way to work through the logjam is to send text messages. Especially if you are trying to reach another cell phone.

  24. Great post Mas, and agree with your thoughts. The sad part is this will be buried quickly, as not one but two of the left’s ‘protected classes’ were involved… a Muslim who hated LBGT (as the Koran says), and the LGBT community who can’t believe someone would actually ‘harm’ them, in light of their protected status. It will all be blamed on the gun, period…

  25. I find it interesting that we Americans are so predictably gullible and continue to allow the terrorists to manipulate us. They are using our two party system to systematically divide us for the purpose of conquering us. They are using our Constitutional rights in this battle. The First Amendment protects our right to freedom of religion and speech and the Second Amendment protects our right to bear arms. The terrorists are using these tragedies against us to divide us among party lines and in turn we continue to talk about infringing on both rights in order to “do something” to solve the problem. They pick a victim that is important to the Democrat party and use a weapon that is important to the Republican party when explosives would have been more effective inside a closed structure.

America needs to wake up and come to the realization that freedom comes at a cost and that cost is sometimes tallied in human lives. Additionally, Americans must realize we are a nation of laws and that we cannot stop terrorism by infringing on everyone’s Constitutional Rights for the Criminal acts of a few. The reality is that each individual American is responsible for his or her own safety as well as the protection of this country. It is our Responsibility to take appropriate action when we observes Behavior that jeopardizes our safety and sovereignty. The police and criminal justice system will be there to investigate and prosecute the offenders after the fact, but it is an American’s Responsibility to report when they see and hear indicators of a pending criminal attack and it is an American’s Responsibility to protect himself or herself and America from such an attack. It’s time for America to start taking the Responsibility as American citizens seriously and protect our own country. Each one of these attacks comes to an end when someone with a gun arrives to put an end to the Murdering. If you wait until the police arrive how many more will die?

  26. It is interesting/frustrating that the liberals will defend Muslims when these acts happen by saying that one bad actor does not define all Muslims. However, when it is a gun owner, the bad actor is the definition of all.

  27. Wayne LaPierre said it long ago, and was, and still is – so right.

The only thing that stops a bad guy (or gal) with a gun is a good guy (or gal) with a gun.

  28. Uncle Dave, they had similar problems with cells getting jammed in Frisco durring a geek gathering. They found the best comms durring something like this is through text message as it uses burst data not long data without getting to techie.

  29. We will not respond properly to this, until the Islamists have murdered the stupidness out of us. It will take them a few more times.

  30. Mas, did the Orlando murderer Mateen use an “AR-15 type rifle” or was it really a Sig Sauer MCX?

If confirmed as the Sig, maybe the media can explain it to themselves and Hillary?

    “Sigh”…

  31. Quite frankly, the hate rhetoric of religious fundamentalism of any ilk is far more dangerous than any weapon, firearm or otherwise.

  32. It would be interesting to see if this was a move by law enforcement or something else was going on.

It’s a good possibility the phone was actually “jammed,” as in the hundreds of people in the club were all trying to make calls and overwhelmed the system.

Nobody seems to have noticed that this isn’t the worst nightclub mass murder:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Land_fire

  33. A comment about the FL gun-free zone law where guns are prohibited (if establishment earns more than 50% of its revenue from alcohol).

If concealed carry was permitted, besides protecting customers and saving lives inside the club it could also benefit law enforcement in that the shooters could be stopped before the police even arrive. And then risk their lives attempting to stop the shooter(s).

  34. What might have stopped this ‘homegrown jihadi’ from killing and wounding all those people?

A ban on Muslim immigration that would have kept his Afghani parents out….

More perceptive FBI agents who might have done a more effective job of recognizing him for what he was….

One or more armed citizens in the crowd at the nightclub, with the training, courage and will to defeat him….

Former DHS intelligence analyst and ‘whistleblower’ Philip Haney has just come out with a book both interesting and shocking on the subject of national security and radical Islamic individuals in the US.

In ‘See Something Say Nothing’, he extensively documents the efforts of Obama administration DHS officials to stop and prevent investigations into mosques and Islamic organizations tied to terror. And their cozying up to and protecting and in some cases bringing onboard members of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Muslim organizations whose ultimate goal is worldwide sharia law.

The MSM loves to talk about these people being radicalized on the Internet. What the Obama administration doesn’t want to talk about is that most radicalization is the result of face-to-face interactions, at local mosques and madrassas (Islamic schools). Yet the Obama admin is doing everything it can to prevent them from being investigated.

It sure appears like there’s some in our Gov’t that *don’t want these homegrown radical Muslim jihadis to be caught*….

  35. The Remington Model 8 came out in what, 1905? The first really successful semi-auto rifle (that actually was a high powered rifle). Winchester had a semi-auto rifle around that time that took detachable magazines. The Browning HiPower (high capacity) came out in the 1930’s. Up until the late 1960’s one could buy an M1 Carbine mail order. All those decades and people did not slaughter other people, well a few times and the worst incident did not involve firearms.

It was not until the state hospitals began to be closed in the 1960’s that the ramification of paranoid schizophrenics (who, as a rule, do not go to the clinic to take medicine for a disease they do not believe they have) slaughtering people a couple of decades later when the hospitals were emptied. What did people expect? So much for Kennedy’s “warm embrace of the community” that was to await the mentally ill thrown out on the street.

Now, with unlimited immigration by anyone, no meaningful vetting at all, from countries with both a recent past and an on-going history of terrorism…guess what the ramification is: more slaughter. What did people expect? It would have been like unlimited, no questions asked immigration from Germany in the late 1930’s, with not a care in the world if the person showing up was a fleeing enemy of Hitler or a card carrying member of the Nazi party who was specially trained in sabotage. Insanity.

  36. I will will just quote myself here (in response to Mike’s Face Book Post on Sunday afternoon about his flight to Baltimore):

    “Yes Mike Rowe.

And I would add that we need more helpers before and during, not just after; not just holding the hand of the injured or fearful; not just getting them to safety or getting medical help.

We need more sheep dog helpers who will prevent, interrupt and stop these incidents. We need more citizens taking responsibility and society and leadership supporting citizens regarding such efforts.

If a terrorist (or criminal) pulls a gun, knife or other weapon anywhere, he should be met immediately with superior force. Police 5 minutes later is far too late.”

PS – I am on the road (just down the road Mas, had dinner tonight Big Wood Bbq Gril with a friend in Live Oak), so no proof reading today,.

  37. Mass, I’m so far the main stream Propaganda machine in this country, that I didn’t even realize this Tragic Event had occurred, and so I was totally shocked when I first read your Blog concerning it.

But I went back and watched several of the “Breaking News” videos trying to “Cover Our Agency’s Asses” immediately after the fact.

To me it seemed obvious that this shooter was clearly a Fanatic Islamic Muslim Jihadist, no matter what his particular stripes, or what brand of Islamic killers he might be aligned with?

The ones that come to my mind, are not the types who surrender when an Officer, or Armed citizen, shows up, or who commit suicide when confronted with any Armed resistance.

No, this Fanatic Killer, kept right on trying to murder any, and all, Infidels who might cross his path, until those Infidels finally Killed him, and sent him to meet his 72 promised Virgins, in Islamic Heaven.

No matter whether he did it for ISIS, or Whoever, he was the type of Islamic Muslim believer that us Christian’s will have to totally Exterminate, if we are ever to have a “Safe World” to live in!

  38. PPS – Where were the Pink Pistols? (Those familiar with the issues & FL law may know they were not at the club).

  39. @Fruitbatt44:

The point of my post was that the ignorant news commentator was talking about the .223 AR as if it was the “Hammer of Thor”. I was merely pointing out that it is not.

I don’t see your point about the M1 Helmets. So a 5.56 NATO round will penetrate it at 400 yards (sure that was not meters?).

So what? A 7.62 NATO round will penetrate it even further and a .50 BMG round further yet.

I doubt that many of the patrons in this nightclub were wearing M1 Helmets at the time of the shooting. However, the swat team members WERE wearing helmets when they made their entry. One of them took a .223 round, from the terrorist murderer, right on the helmet. It failed to penetrate and the swat team member survived with (relatively) minor injuries.

Which pretty much proves my point.

  40. I have a bad feeling that we haven’t seen near the worst yet. Examples:

September 2004. Beslan, Russia, 385 killed, 783 wounded.
November 2008. Mumbai, India, 166 killed, 600+ killed over 4 days!
September 2013. Nairobi, Kenya, 63 killed, 175 wounded.

If the muslimes can do it in Russia, they can easily do it here.

  41. Headline: “Mass Murder In Night Club”
Liberal response: “we must dis-arm future victims”

This is like blaming home invasion robberies on too many locked doors.

  42. There is a legal issue that is being ignored by all in this questioning… It is the responsibility of the any citizen when they know about this kind of thing going to happen it’s illegal and can be prosecuted. The Wife and Father of this muslim knew this would happen… communities which share the responsibility of shielding these people and yet they do nothing.. WHY ARE THEY NOT BEING PROSECUTED? That and the fact that this shooter wasn’t flagged in NICS SYSTEM leaves me suspect that any new laws will not work regardless of the political pandering…in my state of Oregon the Governor is already making political statements to this effect and we have both open and concealed carry in this state. The next thing that comes to my mind is Why did the Officer miss his target to begin with? …. wouldn’t it be prudent to make sure there are rules that provide officers with more range time?? I have read experts agree anyone with concealed carry have a better opportunity to stop a threat for 5 reasons. a) Familiar to the Area of active shooter b) Not obviously a threat to the shooter c) Able to get in close to the shooter d) more range time than most LE e) Able to identify shooter sooner than LE. What are your thoughts on these expert reasons for making public CC a National debate rather than more laws?

  43. Never in a million years would I expect to hear this story from news today. One of the club goers tries to flee out the patio door. 20 to 30 people behind him. He didn’t want the bad guy to follow him out . So he held the door shut and sealed the folks inside to be slaughtered. SMH… I have no words….

  44. One day soon, and it’s coming, you better believe it, one (or more) of these people is going to detonate a suicide vest in some crowded venue. Sporting event, concert etc. It won’t matter how many armed citizens are present. The liberals and gun grabbers won’t have a gun to blame, but the carnage will be incredible. Then what will be their excuse? Oh, don’t worry, they will have an excuse and it will be that somehow we law abiding citizens are at fault.

I read a few minutes ago that George W. Bush and Donald Trump both called the Governor of Florida to express their condolences and offer prayers. So far nothing from Obozo though. He did manage to call the president of France however. Probably to discuss the wine and cheese selections at the surrender ceremony to ISIS.

Why is this incredible (fill in your own personal favorite term) still president?

  45. TN-MAN – It may not be the Hammer of Thor, but then again no (hand held) firearm is, but my point was it aint a balloon on a stick. 🙂

I guess helmet technology has improved since the M1 steel pot. (And I guess angle of impact etc make a big difference.) And personal protection has indeed improved, I mean you know that Threat Level III armour will stop a 7.62mm NATO round and Level IV will stop a 30.06 armour piercing round?

And I’m pretty sure it was yards not metres. The .223/5.56mm was adopted by US Forces long before NATO standardised on it.

However your point that media commentators on the subject of firearms (well all the ones I’ve heard) talk twaddle, is a valid one.
