We had another great day of “family bonding” as we drove down to our oldest son, Bill’s, for a work day. Our first work day down at Oak Lake got the trusses on the garage addition. Since then, we got the OSB on the roof and then Bill sealed it with Tyvek to keep out the weather. Now that spring’s here, he wanted to get the metal roofing on.
So with friends and family helping, we put in a good day’s work and got much of the roofing on. There isn’t much left to do, then he’ll just be down to the trim on the roof and finishing the board and batten siding. It’s turning out real nice and will be a lot of extra room for the family, including a play room for the kids upstairs.
We had a lot of fun and ate plenty of Kelly’s good food. The old saying “many hands make light work” is sure true!
Hello and thank you to our host and hostess at the First Seminar held at the home of Jackie and Will Clay-Atkinson. Jackie is having another seminar this fall and if I could, I would be there. Our May seminar was everything I had hoped for and then some. Every second was a learning experience and hands-on education. Jackie invited us over on Thurs. night and we met a few folks but on Friday we met the rest of the gang and spent the day touring the property, working on a hoop house, planting tomatoes in Wall-o- Waters and just plain having fun. No question went unanswered and Jackie and Will tried to accommodate every need. We learned about tools for the homestead, canning, making cheese, milking goats, pruning fruit trees, taxes, fence building, running a sawmill, raising chickens, and so much more. We were treated to great lunches and suppers and yummy desserts. Our group bonded as we worked and learned and I have memories and knowledge to lead me forward with my plans to homestead. We gained confidence because jackie and Will made everything seem easy. I encourage any and all who want to homestead to make reservations for the fall seminar in August. You will be so happy you signed up and will be writing as I am encouraging everyone with a love for the land and the simple life to visit Jackie and Will on their little piece of paradise here on earth.
