A long time ago I read that simply by being born an American male, most believe they’re also born with the mastery of cars, guns and sex. Not gonna touch the last one, but life experience has taught me that they’re wrong about the first two, but many won’t admit that. It can be hard to overcome their fantasies. (Especially when they’re convinced that all guns are EVIL.)
By and large, women are willing to learn and follow instruction better than many men. I can’t make any generalizations about how many of each have issues connecting the dots to link all the process steps. I’ve taught more men, so have seen more of those issues with them.
A great many women simply love the AR carbine. The stock allows quick adjustment to fit them, the recoil is less than a 9mm service pistol or a shotgun. It’s empowerment in basic black (simple strand of pearls optional) that needs much greater attention in the war on guns. Women seem to be an increasing group taking interest in defending themselves, we need to capitalize on that.
Great having backup at home and while out in public. Just be real nice to other half as we don’t need any friendly fire mishaps. It’s great having a spouse that likes to shoot, never an argument about going to the range
Most of the women students I have tend to pick up concepts more quickly than a lot of the men. And I agree completely that you need to explain why you are asking them to do things a certain way, not just what to do.
My wife’s fond of saying, “God made men and women equal; Smith and Wesson ensures that fact!” I’m glad to see more and more women embracing that concept.
I have lived all my life with guns (all kinds) and I sincerely believe that women (and girls) can handle firearms as well as men. I only wish that my daughter would get trained in self defense firearms. Right now, her favorite calibers when her husband is out of town is German Shepherd, Pit Bull mix, and Rat terrier/ Chihuahua mix, and a Labrador Retriever. The Lab is kind of goofy and unreliable, however.
This reminds me of a time when I was browsing in a small gun shop in Houston about 40 years ago. Another customer entered the shop and told the old gunsmith at the counter that he needed to buy a handgun for his wife. The old gunsmith (as he looked at the revolvers in the glass case) said, “Well, I guess what you need for your wife is a caliber small enough where you can get out the front door with two rounds in you.”. 🙂
Wow! Loved reading that great article. “Mongo” was really funny!!
Civilians need standard capacity magazines more than cops and soldiers do, because they will most likely be defending themselves alone. Women need guns more than men do, because they are more likely to be victims of crime.
The popularity of firearms has been steadily growing during the last several decades. That is a very good thing. Women and minorities are welcome to the party, and responsible for much of that growth.
I noticed the first photo was of Jacqueline Smith, and the second photo was of Kathy Jackson. Can’t help being reminded that Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson were two of “Charlie’s Angels” in the 1970s TV show.
May even more Americans continue to embrace their guns and their freedoms in the future. Remember when Putin’s army invaded Ukraine on February 24th, 2022? All of a sudden, Ukrainians, and some other Europeans, developed a keen interest in riflery. Remember what happened in Israel on October 7th, 2023? Look what’s going on at Barnard College and Columbia University today. American, Democrat-run cities, are havens and opportunity zones for criminals.
Always found women easier to teach, they didn’t have the preconceived idea they knew how to handle a firearm. Men seem to think they already know. However there are 2 things a man should NOT teach his wife or daughter. How to drive is the other one.
Amen. When my wife wants gun lessons, I know who to send her to.
