So, there I was with my lovely bride, the Evil Princess of Podcasts, Pixels and Polymer Pistols, at a hotel where I was teaching a MAG-40 class. The sciatica was really on me, and I was walking like someone even older and more decrepit than I usually am.
Now, this is the lady who has a knack for coming up with useful words. She came up with “truelty,” to describe when the truth is cruel.
We were waiting for the elevator, and when we heard the “ding” that signaled it had reached our floor, she said…
“Your elder-vator is here.”
Which, come to think of it, was a little bit of truelty right there…
Considering some of your wise cracks in past classes, methinks you found a soul mate. I may appropriate that particular pun for future use…….not that I’m not experiencing some reminders of old age/past indiscretions myself.
Absodamnlutly
Don’t be down on elevators. I have always found them to be uplifting! 🙂
Quote of the Day:
Job 14:1-10 – “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not. And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee? Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass; Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant. But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?”
In this case, the Good Book is not so uplifting but it is speaking hard truths.
I think we’re all better off for her keeping you in check. Agreed?
and here I always thought it was Mas keeping HER in checks……
silly me
I miss the ProArms Podcast days……
Amen, Brother!
ROTFLMAO !!!!! Getting old isn’t for wussies.
Find yourself a good massage therapist when you get home to put you on the straight track.
You got this 🙂
Sciatica is a bear. Even though my wife also has it, she has no humor for me.
Mas, welcome to the cane club. I use a walker around the house with a cane and grabber attached to the right side. On the left side I have a holstered Glock 19. The walker also has a basket to carry my beer, snacks, TV remote, and extra mag for the Glock. Everything within reach, except when my granddaughters come to visit and they lose the TV remote. Old age isn’t so bad. 😉
🤣 F’n MEOW!
Mas, I love you, brother, but when you stop referring to your “lovely bride” the “Evil Princess” you will be blessed beyond your imagination. You have life and death in the power of the tongue (OK, that’s the second biblical reference today). To call your lovely lady “Evil” crowds our the wisdom and knowledge and life that you so generously share with us all. May you heal quickly! Blessings on you, Sir!
Esteemed Good Evil Princess and Mas, 3 rejuvenating things have particularly helped me deal with sciatica that stems from a herniated lumbar disc. 1) A Hang-Ups tilting inverted suspension board (Vladimir Putin acquired at least 6 of them, don’t ask me how I know, I am just a friendly “secret” spy), 2) a book called “Pain Free,” showing particularly how to put the balls of both feet on a piece of 2 x 4 and lean forward, and 3) doing a stretch called “The Cat” (watch out for unconscientious predators coming up from behind!). Anterior Pelvic Tilt discomfort is also substantially reduced by 2 and 3. You should not assume that you do not suffer from Anterior Pelvic Tilt if you have sciatica. Regular running also helps me, as well as a variety of stretching. You may need to give up certain belt holsters, maybe all of them. I generally like snug Kydex paddles OK, and the shoulder-borne tanker holster. I often wear strong construction suspenders clipped to tough nylon belts, with an outer shirt over. Don’t let a critic grab you by the suspenders. Drink pomegranate juice daily and eat cinnamon with your oatmeal.
She is truly a wit! Both word-plays are noteworthy. I’ll look for opportunities to use each of them.
I hope Gail always remains so sharp and humorous.
But, age catches us all at some point. Remind her to be nice to you, lest she become the Wicked Queen of Qruelty.
Ha! All good fun, or is that “Follow the sciatica?” BTW, I like the Job quote, TN_MAN.
BTW, unrelated question: I’m not currently declaring my few rifles and handguns on my homeowners policy. I could do so on an umbrella policy, but was wondering if some kind of separate firearms policy is a better idea. Any pointers would be helpful.
I believe NRA offers a policy to members.
My comment is awaiting moderation?
OK. I might add that it’s always obvious that you love your lovely bride. I’m not sure how else to moderate…except perhaps to say that this “Evil Princess” stuff emanates from your obvious tough nature that’s required in some of what you’ve done so well in life. I add that I used to show a tougher side than I do now, and I’m better off having moderated that; my point is that I hope and pray the same blessing for you. Be well.
The EP is a wordsmith. Is she a writer?
The always cheerful (sarc) Russians say: “life is hard … but mercefuly short”.
Esteemed Gaffer, life is even shorter for those whom terrorists murder. We are well into the third year of being in the hands of a compromised federal executive that has been sadly incompetent in providing and promoting effective security in America, as well as in the rest of the world. We seem to be into a time of anniversary attacks, such as “commemorating” the time of the Yom Kippur War of 1973. If you look up a past planned “Detroit Sleeper Cell” attack on Disneyland, for example, it may supply a clue on the reappearance of the kinds of attack that may be just around the corner. We have met the enemy, folks, and he/she/it is not just us. Beware of our foggy Howdy Doody, though, and let us constitutionally mothball that short-circuited wooden dummy and his operators before we catch fire. For every “white supremacist” in this country, which seem to be very few, we must have a thousand “useful idiots” selling us out, who need to awaken from paranoid “awoke.”
I remember when the Left was against “hate speech.” I guess hate speech is OK when it is against the Jews.
I’m thinkin she should be writing a column too.
This is off topic but there is more bad news coming. There has been a mass murder event in the State of Maine. According to news reports, at least 16 people have been murdered.
Unfortunately, initial news reports indicate that this a an event that is “made to order” for the gun grabbers. The “Person of Interest” seems to be a firearms trainer with a military background who seems to have experienced some sort of mental breakdown. The Reports indicate that he was recently treated for mental health issues. Don’t know about the accuracy of these initial reports. Usually, the media gets a lot wrong in their initial reporting.
This case can be used by the firearms prohibitionists to attack various things such as firearms training, private gun ownership, and (especially) to push their Red Flag Laws. You can expect the firearms prohibitionists, and their allies in the Anti-American Media, to have a “Field Day” with this incident. They will soon be dancing in the blood of the victims and pushing prohibition left, right and center!
Maine already does have a process to remove firearms from people who a judged to be dangerous. It is not the heavy-handed Red Flag process favored by the prohibitionists but it exists. See this link:
https://www.abc10.com/article/news/verify/maine-mass-shooting-red-flag-laws-verify/65-55e5d1a2-5fe6-4474-8706-0922e8e4e1db
The fact that the existing laws failed, to stop this mass murder event, will be glossed over by the media, the prohibitionists, and their legislative tools. They will proclaim that the magic solution is to impose even more and more gun control. I expect that they will push Maine to institute a full blown (unconstitutional) Red Flag Law within a year. This event will be used to drive this process in Maine and elsewhere.
Like I said. More bad news. This is just more ammunition for the prohibitionists to use.
Maine is a Constitutional Carry state. I wonder if any victims shot back.
As I understand it, the Maine shootings took place in a bowling alley and a bar and grill. I expect that both locations were licensed to serve alcohol.
Under Maine Law, it is illegal to carry a firearm in an establishment that serves alcohol (unless law enforcement, etc.). See this link:
https://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/statutes/17-A/title17-Asec1057.html
Therefore, I expect that, once again, we have a mass murder event taking place in a “Gun Free Zone”. In this case, the “Gun Free Zone” is created by Maine’s gun laws.
So, none of the victims could have shot back unless they were already breaking the law themselves.
Gun Free Zone = Easy Killing Field for Nutjob. Same old story. Rinse, Wash, and Repeat.
Thanks for the clarification, TN_MAN. My belief is the only place concealed carry should be prohibited is in a courtroom. Guns and alcohol don’t mix well with bad tempers, but if there is no armed guard in places where liquor is sold, people need to be allowed to carry. It used to be in Maine, bottled alcohol could only be bought in government-run stores. I don’t know if that is still the law there. That shows that Maine might have had a history of being kind of a dry state. That would explain the fear of mixing alcohol and guns. Anyway, as you pointed out, more victims have just been sacrificed on the “Gun-Free Zone” altar. Americans really need to stop listening to the Left. Their policies are destructive and dangerous.
@ Roger Willco
Here is some additional confirmation pertaining to my comment above about the Maine shooting locations being Gun Free Zones. See this link:
https://bearingarms.com/camedwards/2023/10/27/lewiston-bowling-alley-that-was-first-target-of-killer-was-a-gun-free-zone-n76660
TN_MAN, you are right on the money about the intent of the exploitive Left to deprive Americans of the right to bear arms in self-defense. The hostile, well-funded socialist Left is much more of a threat to freedom in our divinely-inspired Constitutional Republic than any of the crackpot “active shooters” we have had who have been obliviously provided undefended areas to attack. The less that Americans demonstrate courage and the will to actively defend themselves, the more that evil can rear its ugly head. Socialist money obtains as a force to create havoc, calculated to produce a clash of civilizations that enables corrupt government to dominate defenseless people. Shame on exploitive criminals, more so in “high” places even than in low! They all know who they are, and so do we know them. The more that they can recognize the merit of confessing and giving up their evil ways, the less that people will suffer.
Well said, Strategic Steve. I believe the Left is more destructive to America, so far, than anything Russia, China, North Korea or Iran have done to us.
Mas – Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative.
