To all who contributed to heading off a Hillary Clinton Presidency…thank you.
We’ve dodged some political bullets that were potentially lethal to our rights. The election results have prevented the predictable vitiating of the Supreme Court.
In celebration, I think I’ll wear a couple of stag-gripped Smith & Wessons today.
The shorter, less powerful .38 Special on the left and the .357 Magnum on the right seems appropriately symbolic…
The mainstream media, which went so blatantly propagandistic for the Clinton campaign, literally created its own monster. In giving Trump so much more play than the other Republicans, thinking that if the clown they portrayed him to be was nominated the Democrats would be unbeatable, they unwittingly awakened a vast swath of ordinary middle class Americans with classic American values to the belief that Trump was their only hope. If Trump was as stupid as they portrayed him to be, he wouldn’t have outsmarted them at their own game.
We’ve won the battle, but not the war. Among other things, there will be some respite for this blog to go back to talking about using guns, and not just keeping them.
When you start seeing t-shirts like this, you know Americans are getting fed up with mainstream media that sounds like Pravda during the Cold War years.
Sometimes you dance with the bear … and sometimes the bear dances with you.
Thank You Americans one & all!
2A all the way …everyday!
I’ll be digging out my 70’s Series Colt 1911 .45 in celebration of electing our 45th President.
I’m glad it’s over and yes we’ve won a battle but not the war. Don’t forget the propaganda, especially from Hollywood. In voting for Trump I’m tired of business as usual. To me that’s the reason Trump is an office.
The Journalist T-shirt did make smile, though I’d probably find it less funny if I, or any of my friends were journalists. I mean it would be a bit of stretch to say that it was advocating killing anyone who didn’t say the “correct” things . . .
And the USA now has Trump for President, and also as the effective leader of the free world.
Well I hope he’s not as bad as his detractors make out (not difficult) but we shall see. And it might all turn out alright.
Good luck America and God bless us all.
I get it, I get it. A pretty large majority of journalists are in the tank for the left, either working with them (as has been on display of late with Wikileaks) or fellow travelers. Still, it’s not all of them. I’ve been reading James Lileks work for what feels like forever (but only really since just after 9/11), and he — among many journalists — are not in the tank. See it from his perspective: this kind of t-shirt is just bad in innumerable ways. His post from yesterday, with the pic.

Today is a good day!
It looks like the predictions that I was casting a vote for Hillary by supporting Gary Johnson were incorrect. The liberal prediction that my Johnson vote would help elect Trump turned out true so I suppose the Dems were right this time.
However we have to all stand up and thank some 15,000 people who got up, got dressed and voted for a dead gorilla for president. People got their “dicks out” for Harambe and showed that the alternatives were so unpleasant that they would rather have a deceased silver-back gorilla in the oval office. I’m content with the winner as I knew that Johnson would not have a chance in winning but it is good to see the Libertarian Party finally seen as more then a fringe party with no future. Carry on my friends.
It’s like we dodged a bullet. I’ve only been shooting since December of 2012 at the age of 45. Sure didn’t want to see my 2nd amendment rights vanquished so soon after discovering such an enjoyable change in lifestyle. I’m very much grateful.
My spirit has been lifted, I said a prayer of Thanks after I found out Trump won!
Let the patriots move forward and drain the swamp.
I think I’ll celebrate by buying another gun. Now I have to pick out which one!
I went with a .45 today. Seemed appropriate since Trump will be our 45th President.
About the 3rd & 4th party votes: Ross Perot has been avenged-with interest.
I went upstairs at around 0300 and turned on that TV which went to a lame stream channel and the talking heads (when did they let high school kids be anchors?) were talking about Hilary leading in Florida and I had to wonder what stats they were seeing. Or maybe what color contact lenses they were looking through.
After some personal experience with “journalists”, I wouldn’t wear one of those shirts. Might be considered to go to state of mind.
Heck, I don’t know which I’m more thankful for…our new commander in chief or next post on this blog (since it’ll be about guns)!
TXCOMT
Back at ya Mas. In spades.
I was in Live Oak & Mostly McAlpin for the weekend working on property and enjoying time with friends. I missed you at the post office.
After only 2.5 hours sleep sunday i got on I-10 east out of Live Oak Monday afternoon and drove 22 hours straight to RI to vote. I ended up taking care of a months worth of mail and then watched the polling results come in. I finally got to sleep this morning just before noon. It seems I can still do a 56 hour stretch.
If things go as currently planned, I will be joining you all in Live Oak in early December. I look forward it.
I have been reminding everyone that the SCOTUS is not a slam dunk. Who knows what will or will not happen in the next 2 years. And we cannot really be certain of the Senate beyond then nor much else.
And we can look back to Pres. Reagan ‘ s SCOTUS appointee and how that hasn’t always worked out as many of us might have hoped and expected.
And so it goes …
So while we catch our breath, we can probably ease up ever so slightly for maybe long enough to enjoy a good beer or bourbon with friends and family, brothers and sisters, fellow sheep dogs. Maybe we can even relax for a day or two?
But like life on a farm, things won’t wait. There is never time for longer than a pregnant pause.
Enjoy the victory everyone! Refresh yourselves as we need to press on.
Perserverence is omnipotent. Much like habing faith.
Regarding the “t-shirt’
Hey it is intended to reflect how we some might feel about justice. Being able to see a separation of thoughts and behaviors is some ting many have trouble with. It is often just what it appears to be: humor.
And in this case, the heavy lifting (‘some assembly reqyired’) wad handled by the supposed victims themselves. I for one was laughing while watching them all night. Back peddaling, looking like list souls, wailing, wondering (hopelessly at time’s) at what went wrong. Not really quite ready to confront the guilt to be found in their own mirror.
Human nature is nothing if not entertaining at times.
RE: the message of the t-shirt at the end: So, we only support the Second Amendment now and to hell with the first? Seriously; this is what is wrong! We need to begin working immediately to “bind the wounds” as our President elect has said; not rub salt. We need to immediately work to unit a much too divided country. And one way to do that is to respect ALL people’s rights; ALL people’s voices, and ALL people’s. We do not have to agree; but we do need to get along. We took the political high ground (this time, for now); so now should be taking the high road as well. There is no place for the sentiments of that t-shirt. #Disappointed.
Right on cue, “spontaneous” protests erupting in several major cities against Trump being elected. I guess accepting the election results only applies to conservatives. Of course CNN is attempting to justify the “anger” of the “people”.
Guess this transition is not going to be as peaceful as hoped.
Mr. Trump WON the election by being himself, don’t let GOPe or liberal left wing media tell you otherwise. We heard what Mr. Trump said, we liked it, we voted.
America heard what Mrs. Clinton said…
Eddie, yes and no. The biggest concern I have with the result is that some (incorrectly) see the popular vote as proof that Trump should not be and is not their nor the pope’s choice. Not that big a deal but adding to the discontent none the less.
Good on you to do what you need to and seeing things from a different perspective. Thanks for your thoughts and input. And looking for the humor.
Mostly, thanks for not taking certain celebrities up on their offer of sexual favors quid pro qo hrc vote.
Yes I kept spreading the word on social media and reposting all the posts you asked us to among many pro gun sites and NRA Gun Vote.
It’s a wonderful day for me especially watching my son’s so happy that they will get to keep their gun rights the gun enthusiasm I’ve instilled in them. I have enough high capacity magazines and guns to last me two life times but knowing all the introduction to firearms that I passed on to my family was about to get really restricted and not for a few years for a very long time with the Supreme Court appointments Hillary would have made.
Thank God above and all the good American folks who have had enough of the Obama administration and Clintons and voted for Trump. I’m a happy camper today so is many of my friends and family.
I would respond but it will take a while to sober up.
The time to get a CCW National Reciprocity law passed is NOW!
The blatant bias, especially at CNN, may have actually helped provoke the backlash that caused the upset. (That goes for the entertainment industry as well as the news media. Joss Whedon’s patronizing “Save the Day” ad was enough to make me want to vote for Trump [or, more accurately, against Clinton] just to spite Big Hollywood.)
You needn’t be apologetic about dealing with politics on the blog (or in magazine articles and columns, either). If Hillary Clinton had been campaigning on a platform that included banning cars, or just banning certain types of vehicles (maybe “military grade Hummers”), or if she called for “common sense regulations” (e.g., universal background checks for car buyers), then Motor Trend and Car & Driver would probably have been running columns and articles about it. Or, if Trump had called for outlawing television, then TV Guide would have been running editorials opposing him.
WHEW! just WHEW!. And my phone hasn’t rang today.
What’s amazing is the middle class got POed and out voted the rampant voter fraud.
God saved the republic.
This calls for a trip to the range.
I couldn’t stand to vote for either of them but at least Trump won’t start a nuclear war with Russia like neocon Hillary might have. Vladmir is a KGB smart guy and thinks he can outmaneuver Trump but the President-elect has proven himself to be a very clever opponent and they will use words not nukes.
Dale, now that’s a great idea, lately, l’ve been wanting a Colt carbon steel, in 10mm. I’m wondering if they only make them in stainless?
Dig the Appleseed shirt!
I am taking no real pleasure in the distress of those in mourning after the Trump upset, since (sadly) my lovely wife is one of them. HOWEVER, I am very happy to make an exception in the case of Chris “I have a thrill running down my leg” Matthews. If he is a journalist, then I am “a gay pirate from Cuba” to quote Uncle Ted, and any distress he feels about the Clinton loss is just desserts over his shameless shilling for Obama.
Speaking of Nugent, when you have 10 minutes to spare, find his video posted yesterday. He’s as direct as always, and seeing hi wiping away tears of joy is just plain amusing 🙂
I quoted this, and posted a thought on FB…
The below post from Massad Ayoob got me thinking. The Democrats (aided by the main street media) have done such a good job vilifying Donald Trump, people are convinced the world is coming to an end. It is not, MOST IMPORTANT, he was elected to lead a Constitutional Republic.
He was elected President not Emperor:
the Constitution continues to be the rock upon which the country stands, the Supreme Court continues to exist,
both the House of Representatives and the Senate continue to represent us, and beyond that, as Americans we must continue to support each other, whether he was your candidate or not. “UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL”.
What I would ask of all of us is some patience before we say the sky is falling out of unreasonable fear.

Some are bemoaning the recent/current departure by Mas from firearm discussion to politics. “Backwoods Home” is a magazine devoted to a lifestyle of self sufficiency, prepping, survival etc. This blog is a part of that overarching umbrella, dedicated to firearms and the indispensable part that their use plays into these goals. Mas has always performed masterfully at balancing the task of firearms education, with how they play a role in self sufficiency, and the threat to our rights to keep and bear them. We just faced the most real threat to losing that right I’ve seen in my lifetime. I also believe this fight is far from over.
Thank you Mas for bringing into focus the very real threat to our freedoms.
Thanks to all of those expressing similar concerns about those threats.
Thanks to everyone who voted with those threats on their mind when they cast their ballot.
@ Pat Viebey: The trouble I am having is being silent when I hear the Chicken Little crowd on the left wringing their hands and gnashing their teeth over what Trump will do to them, how the country is over, how we’ll be living in a dictatorship, etc.
I seem to recall (and personally endured) begin told to shut up when Obama was elected and even back in the 90’s under the first (an ONLY, thank God) President Clinton. I was told constantly by the media and in person that my “gun rights” (and you could hear the quotes when you didn’t see them in print) were not being taken away from me…all the while witnessing the incremental eroding of those rights step by step. I heard how “the gummint” (that word being used by the Left to ridicule we rubes on the right) was not trampling our rights and how we just needed to shut up and let the President do what needed to be done.
In short, the shoe is on the other foot, and while I really want to take the high road I am fighting every day to not yell at the Snowflakes here behind Ivy League enemy lines to shut the hell up and get back to the classes their parents are paying for.
Don’t now about you all, but I am ready to go back to talking about the shelf life of Yoder’s Bacon-in-a -Can!
Mas: The left definitely came up short this time.
By the way, do you find some key-holing with the short .38? Looks like a pure 2-inch barrel.
Steve, so far that 2″ Model 15 shoots like the “sawed off target revolver” it pretty much is. Haven’t tried 148 grain wadcutters in it yet but it’s fine with 135 grain NYPD loads and 158 grain FBI loads and service loads.
Thinking ahead, what better way could there be to make a positive statement about firearms, freedom and the Second Amendment than to have President-Elect Trump accept a formal invitation to attend and view a CMP 2017 match competition held at Camp Perry OH between late June and late July 2017? Imagine the President-Elect of the United States saying sincerely to a enthusiastic crowd at Camp Perry these two words: “Marksmanship matters.”
Mas, I love the t-shirt. Kudos to Paul S comments above. Our American brand of humor is what makes us unique in the world.
I am old enough to remember what it was like when Reagan was elected. I thought the liberals were going to lose their minds. One benefit of being old is that we can remember things (if we were paying attention, some weren’t) that we see being re-played again. I was incredulous when Trump announced his candidacy, but he got my respect when he openly and with courage announced exactly what a lot us had had been saying for years. He’s got guts, he’s an American with all his warts, but he knows what freedom looks and sounds like. God Bless him.
My personal feeling following Trump’s victory is one of uncertainty. That’s preferable to the dread I would have felt after a Clinton victory. Let’s not take it for granted that Trump will always be on our side. In the past, he has been on both sides of many issues.
It’s encouraging to see that he is acting very presidential now that the campaign is over. However, I wish he had been more precise when addressing issues like immigration and terrorism. Not distinguishing between the good and the bad alienated people who might otherwise have supported him. Now, as President, he will have the burden of reassuring them that he only meant the bad ones.
Some very nice looking Smiths in those photos; I wish they were mine.
Despite the shock of the election results I’m so glad all the political races, and the sickening media hype, are finished. Though I generally vote Democratic I think the party “forgot” to consider middle and working class Americans’ needs and paid a heavy price. Shortsighted and stupid of them.
Unfortunately, I do not think the Marxists/progressive fascists are going away. Sooner or later, they WILL become violent when they think they can win. Of course they will not do the actual fighting–they will direct our police and military to do their dirty work and put our brave uniformed brothers between a rock and a hard place. Will the police/military follow unconstitutional/immoral directives or support their fellow citizens? What happened in New Orleans scared me, I did not think a major police organization would react like that. We have to attack this cancer in our country’s schools and media- I believe that is the only answer for a long term solution to this problem. How must be answered by a smarter person then me.
We must be ready.
I can say honestly, I’m surprised, and pleasantly so. I did not expect Trump to even come close to winning. While I didn’t vote for him (and let’s be honest, it didn’t matter in my home state of MA), the side of me that was very much against Hillary is happy. I hope he can become a better president than he was a candidate, and maybe that’s possible — Obama was a great campaigner, but a terrible president.
I also have to say, the utter and total meltdown of all radical liberals everywhere has greatly contributed to my good mood. I’m crossing my fingers that he can enact nationwide reciprocity, and maybe even get rid of gun free zones as he said he would in a speech in VT.
Just a note here. Mike Dillon, passed away just before the election. Those of us who reload ammo owe him a debt of gratitude. “https://www.dillonprecision.com/rememberingmikedillon.html”
Now if only Ginsberg will honor her promise to resign….
We’ll have 2 empty SCOTUS seats for President Trump (I like saying that) to fill. His candidate list is impressively Conservative and , with any luck, we’ll have 1 or 2 more Liberal Justices giving up, er, resigning, and then the SCOTUS will be as the Founding Fathers intended.
David, Thanks! I thought it was a good idea and even stopped at the range at shot 45rds of a loud and flashy load I usually keep for the first match of the year at clubs (make sure the range gods are awake from their winter slumber here in NE Ohio).
I think Colt only makes the Delta in Stainless. I think my 10mm Kimber Eclipse is stainless but not sure. Love 10mm and often carry either the Kimber or a S&W 1076 in the winter months.
Since the Republicans own the house, senate and White House, I have dreams.
1. Reciprocal licensing everywhere in the US.
2. Change FFL laws so that I can call any gun shop in the US, give them a credit card, and have any gun shipped to me. Amazon.Com gets into the gun business. Discounts, 2 for 1, and cash back bonuses.
3. Federal preemtion, so that stupid states like NJ, NY, Mass, California, and Illinois can’t restrict second amendment rights.
4.
Where can I get a T-shirt. The sentiment needs to be understood. The media needs to impartially represent current events. The first amendment is not a license to indoctrinate.
Mas, You are a great American!!
Looks like the Democrats didn’t cheat enough to win this time. Well, the Fabian Socialists have been trying to peacefully fool America into their socialist utopia for more than a hundred years. Now they have a real setback. Will they now turn to violence like their Bolshevik brothers did in 1917, in order to attain their dream?
PREDICTION: In March 2017, the media will discover that America has a terrible homeless problem. We will be told about this every day of Trump’s administration. Never mind that Obama’s policies created the most homeless we’ve ever had. I know the media will do this because I remember when they did it to Ronald Reagan in the 1980s.
I will also be praying for Donald Trump’s safety. He needs to stay indoors, surrounded by the Secret Service, and forget about taking rides in convertibles.
I forgot to ask earlier. What’s with the vote returns in New Hampshire? Do they relay the counts by dog sled or ox cart?
Sorry, couldn’t get past the 2″ M-15.
At this point it looks like Trump has won on a technicality, with Clinton leading the popular vote by almost 400,000 votes as of this morning. Still, a win is a win, but this kind of minority win can hardly be called a mandate. YARMP: Yet Another Minority Republican President.
We’ll see how things go, but I rather suspect that I’ll be putting a sticker on my bumper before too long which says, “Don’t blame me, I voted for Hillary.” While a lot of the posters here support most or all of Trump’s platform, there are also many single-issue gun voters. To them I say: You may have made a deal with the Devil. I hope you like the dance.
And as for those hopes for the Supreme Court? Nominees to the Supreme Court can be blocked by 41 votes in the Senate and we Dems hold 46, plus two independents who caucus with us for 48. We can’t just refuse to even have hearings as the Republicans have been doing, but we can make sure extremists don’t get appointed.
I ran across an interesting opinion piece in the New York Post. Here is the link:
http://nypost.com/2016/11/10/obamas-main-legacy-the-collapse-of-the-democratic-party/?ref=yfp
I find this piece interesting. There were some on this blog, such as Liberal Dave for example (where is Liberal Dave BTW? I hope that he has not thrown himself off the tower at the University of Texas on account of the Clinton Car-wreak! 🙂 ), who were predicting the failure and fading of the Republican Party. I have to admit that, at the time, things were looking grim and I was pessimistic myself.
The shoe is on the other foot now. The Republican Party now controls the Presidency, the Senate, the House, and about 2/3 of the State Governor offices. Hardly a party fading away!
It is the Democrats who have faded in this last lap. As I noted before, President Obama has utterly failed to do any party building on the democratic side. There is no young generation of democratic leaders able to step up to the plate. That is why old-timers like Hillary and Bernie ended up running in 2016.
Obama’s failures don’t just end with his domestic and foreign polices. He has failed as a member of his own party!
@ Dave (the Liberal, non-Uncle one),
Welcome back! I am glad you are back!
We need someone to help bring us all back down to Earth after Trump’s Presidential victory plus the victory of maintaining control of the U.S. Senate and House plus the victory of expanding the number of States where Republicans control the Governor seats and legislatures!
Yes, you are technically correct in that Hillary won the popular vote. While 400,000 votes sounds like a lot, one must consider it in light of over 120 million votes cast. In percentage terms, it amounts to a difference of about 3/10 of 1 percent. Probably within the margin of error of the vote-count processes. Effectively, the popular vote was about a tie.
Hillary’s support was concentrated (mainly) in heavily populated urban areas. In terms of land area, far more of the U.S. was red than blue after this election. Trump carried more States and, thereby, won the election. That’s the way the system was designed to work.
As for your other point about blocking “extremists” from the SCOTUS, let me answer by quoting Barry Goldwater:
“I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”
Prior to winning, Trump was accused of “treasonous language” and threatening a “coupe” if he refused to accept the election results.
The same media folks making those accusations are now making excuses for those S.A.P.S. (Soros/Alinsky Propaganda Stooges) rioting and threatening anarchy because Hillary lost. It’s righteous indignation and understandable reaction don’t you know.
I fear this violence may very well escalate as we approach inauguration day. The combination of anarchists, BLM, and indoctrinated young people (stooges) can wreak havoc in our major cities. We are living in perilous times for our country.
