I’m looking forward to The Pin Shoot that’s coming up second week in June in the beautiful family resort area of Central Lake, Michigan.  Camping, cabin, hotel or deluxe resort, your call, they’re all there.  Fun on and at the lake for the whole family: Vacation World for them, while you’re at Gun World during the day.

Last year’s event is written up here, and here.

If you’ve been reading gun magazines for a long time, this is the reincarnation of the iconic match formerly known as The Second Chance Shoot. Picture a carnival midway of live fire shooting games, and you win guns instead of teddy bears if you do well enough.  Events for handguns and long guns.  Semiautomatic pistols and revolvers.  A space gun class if your tricked out sidearm has optics and other enhancements. Comp Gun class if you have extra-heavy barrels and/or recoil compensators.  Stock gun class if you have, well, stock handguns. Concealed carry category for the more compact pistols and revolvers. Shotgun events for accuracy with speed with rifled slugs, or a bit less accuracy and a bit more speed at closer range with buckshot. Two-person team events with handgun and rifle, and three-person team with one shooter on handgun and the others on scattergun.  Individual rifle and two-person rifle team.  And everything is shot on knock-down targets making it great for spectators.

Entry fee ain’t cheap, but it will cost you less than the same amount of time in Las Vegas, and instead of gambling on luck you’re gambling on shooting skill.  Some of the finest of the finest in the shooting game – I’m talking likeability and friendliness, not just skill – and some of the best and most famous people in the shooting world, to boot.

Your host will be Richard Davis, the armed citizen and Second Amendment advocate who invented the concealable soft body armor that has saved thousand of lives.  He is literally The Man Who Bullet-Proofed America’s Police.  He and his son Matt, head of event sponsor Armor Express, lead a team who put on a great match that includes great daily feeds with the entry fee.

As they said in my day, it’s a “happening.”  A part of the gun culture you want to experience at least once.  Info and signup at www.pinshoot.com. I’ll be there along with the Evil Princess, though we’ll arrive a few days late in the week of shooting.  Hope to see you there!

  1. I have had my entry fee paid for some time. I picked up a Kimber long slide for the comp division. This year I am using FACTORY ammo, Winchester 1911 230gr hp. This bullet is very close to the discontinued Speer bullet (Flying ashtray).

  2. While I can’t go, this might have been posted earlier so that attendees could take advantage of the early registration discounts. The last one one was April 1st. Just saying.

  3. There’s no invite, if you just want to show up? It sounds like a lot of fun. I’m going to stick with the Glock match where I’m at for now. I wish I could be there. Have fun.
