Ruger has earned a reputation for reasonably priced, rugged, high value for the dollar firearms since the company was founded in 1949. The tradition continues with their new RXM, something of a clone of the hugely popular 9mm Glock 19 pistol. Here’s my assessment of it, from the issue of GUNS magazine now on the newsstands.

  1. While I’m not in the market, I love the optic setup, particularly that it leaves the irons in place should the optic cease to perform as intended. Other designers please take note.

  2. The RXM appears to be a good deal for the price and has the features a Glock 19 should have. I picked it p a Springfield XD Mod 3 awhile back for $270. Optic ready, decent trigger, fiber optic front sight & 16 round magazine. We are definitely living in the age of high quality affordable firearms.

  3. “All GLOCKs have embedded rails, while the RXM is one of the first if not the first to have a serialized component, which contains the rails, similar to the SIG P365 and P320.”

Does this mean that Ruger will eventually offer different size/style grip modules for the RXM? Mas, do you know if Ruger has plans to do so in the future?

If different grip modules are an option (now or in the immediate future), it might help with sales of the RXM to law-enforcement agencies. The ability to swap out grip modules, to fit the different hand sizes found on a large police force (plus a price-point lower than the Glock models) could prove strong selling points for law-enforcement sales.

Is Ruger aiming at the law-enforcement market, as well as the commercial market, with this model?

  4. I love the Beretta APX A1 Carry. BIG grooves to operate the slide, and plenty of port room for a malfunction drill! It is also modular with the bigger ones, and has an optic plate already attached.

  5. I purchased one as a merry Christmas to me. In my opinion it’s better than a Glock 19. $400 is what I paid and 15 round magpul mags at 13.99 at bass pro. One of the best deals for a striker fired gun.

  6. It’s weird, I don’t like Glocks but I do like Glock clones. I have two Polymer 80 frames with Brownell uppers and they subjectively fit me much better than a factory Glock. There is a little issue with serial numbers or the lack thereof (legal so far, but a potential complication in court). The Ruger/Magpul version looks like a good affordable alternative.

  7. I have been carrying a Glock19 since I got my CCW in 2021 and have used it in a dozen classes and a few thousand rounds. I’m not an expert, but I’m learning.

I took the Range Ready Studios “Ruger RxM Experience” session; primarily an intro to the RxM, but also some fundamental training. My overall shooting performance improved. Some of it was training lessons that just “clicked”, but I believe it was also influenced by the better feel and ergonomics of this gun ~ it’s just less “blocky” than the G19 and it runs smoother.

The RxM has now become my EDC and the G19 moved to the “house gun” for bumps in the night.
