We humans are social creatures. By and large, recreation is more fun when we do it with others. True of golf, or going to the county fair…or going shooting.

The Evil Princess and I recently shot what the schedule indicates will probably be the last time this year when our schedules coincide with a Glock match (www.gssfonline.com).  We went with half a dozen friends.

Downtime waiting to shoot was quality conversation time. Helping each other to refill our magazines in between shooting stages took some time pressure off.  We were able to borrow each other’s guns.  I lent a Glock 30 SF .45 to a friend to shoot the Major Sub division, and when the fiber optic front sight departed from Gail’s pet Glock 17, our old friend Steve Sager lent her his G17.  We even fielded a couple of teams.

Congratulations to Robby Harris, who according to preliminary scores won the Amateur Civilian class. Both our teams did well.  We got to watch young superstar Quinton Ho shooting the falling plates event on the way to his overall victory in Master Stock. His average time was less than three seconds to react to a start signal, come up from low ready, and shoot down six eight-inch steel plates from eleven yards.

Shooting is fun. Shooting in competition is rewarding.  Shooting with other good people is even more fun and more rewarding.

Our Master Team, Steve Sager, Mas, David Blazek.

  1. I really got fired up after this match. Finished better than ever. Signed up for Dawsonville the weekend before the armorers class this month. Am pretty sure I will go to Talledega in September for the big match. Thanks for letting me in on the fun every February. Congratulations Mas on high finishes in all your catagories (without corrective eyewear)

      • Nobody could shoot looking at a target backwards via mirror like Gene Autry. In fact, Gene himself probably didn’t shoot that well. You never know when the skill could come in handy, though. Ear plugs extra important there.

  2. Glad to hear a good time was had by all! Makes me miss those carefree college days so long ago shooting with local sheriff’s deputies on lunch break, with a “worst score buys the burritos for everyone” standing wager…

  3. Did you name your group after a heavy metal band? (Motley Crew [sic]) 🙂

Glad you all had a good time and enjoyed yourselves. I find the social aspect of shooting to be as enjoyable, if not more so, than the shooting itself.

  4. Sounds like some time well spent in the pursuit of happiness! Good for all of you, or in Tennessean, “Good for y’all!” Refreshingly absent from your account is any mention of ammo shortages–things seem to be slowly getting better, especially for 9mm.

      • TN_MAN,

Thanks for sharing. Mark Steyn is the best. That video illustrates another blessing we still have here in America. We have less free speech than we used to have, but we still have more than anywhere else. Mark Steyn can speak his mind, and communicate it to all of us. We can still share ideas on the Internet. Bad times look like they are coming, but they are not here (in America) yet.

Notice the disparity between the mouths of America’s domestic enemies, and their feet. Their mouths condemn America, but their feet stay right here. You know they are enjoying life here. Also, look at all the people trying to get their feet into America.

To return to this thread, I have been a member of my range for twenty years. Every time I go there I have a positive experience, and meet great people.

      • Putin is shooting up a storm in Ukraine, but what goes around will come around. Doubtful if this new Stalin has any real friends anyone would want, and his kind never lasts in favor. He and his cronies will soon enough reap what they are sowing.

      • Strategic Steve,

It is horrible, but also amazing, how much suffering and destruction can be caused by ONE PERSON, in a position of power. Look how much destruction was caused by Hitler. Look how much destruction is being caused by Putin. We can all name other examples.

America’s republic was formed to take away power from monarchs. Monarchs were born into their jobs. The people had no say in who ruled them. We vote for our leaders. That is supposed to keep tyrants out of the job. It works pretty well. America’s presidents have been better than the rulers of other countries, or at least they have been less evil. (I’m sure a Native American could give me a good argument here). But, as we see, stupid voters result in bad government.

The world, or rather, the human heart, is fatally flawed. I’m glad this world is not my permanent home. This world is my temporary campground.
