The Pin Shoot, my favorite match of the year, ended yesterday after a week of perfect weather. At any given time, the line of 27 three-tiered pin tables was well occupied. With three tables at each of the nine shooting stations, one might find nine shooters running individual events, or the same number of three-person teams blazing away with shotguns and pistols.  I won’t even try to estimate how many thousands of rounds were fired.

The last day, the awards ceremony was delayed somewhat, and I had to leave before the awards to get to my destination for today’s class.  When I get the results I’ll publish them here, because those stats will allow for some interesting gun-to-gun performance comparisons.

For now, here’s a glimpse of some of the action.

In all but 9mm events, the pins have to be blasted completely off the tables, so you go for “one shot/one pin,” as here with a Springfield Armory .45.
In 9mm events it’s enough to just tip the pins over. Here’s Greg Blough’s awesome run with an STI 9mm.
Here’s a 3-man team in action.
In the Pistol Caliber Carbine event Bonnie Young nails the first of 12 pins with her custom 9mm AR15.
The Big Push, designed for heavy caliber hunting handguns, sees the first of three pins almost off the end of a14-foot trough as shooter is already rolling his trigger on the next target.
Pin heads fly as shooter nails them with provided S&W K-22 revolver.
Targets are WA-A-AYl out there as shooter engages them from offhand with .223 AR15. For high power rifles and shotgun slugs, steel knock-down targets are used.

  1. That looks like fun! It’s interesting to see the reaction of the pins, particularly if hit off center. I tried it many years ago with a modest .357 load and the results were laughable at best.

  2. Looks like y’all had a ….blast! Sorry I had to drop a corny dad joke on Father’s Day!
    Happy Father’s Day!

  3. Live about 45 minutes from here, been reading your reviews about this since the 90s. Won’t miss it next year
