The California house and senate have reportedly passed an egregious law that will profoundly hamper honest citizens’ ability to purchase ammunition there.

Cabela’s, one of the nation’s leading retailers of ammunition for hunting, target shooting, and home and personal defense, has stated that it will not sell ammunition in California if the Governor signs it into law. Links HERE and HERE.

If you live there, or even if you just care, you owe it to yourself and “the cause” to write a polite, sincere letter to Governor Schwartzenegger. This would be a truly ominous and ugly precedent.

  1. Nothing “new” – as businesses of ALL sorts have been fleeing California for other states and abroad for years due to California’s absurd regulatory environment!

  2. Of course, if one were to be cynical, one might point out that should this bill pass, Cabela’s will be UNABLE to sell ammunition in California, making their threat to not sell ammunition in California somewhat empty.

    Honestly, I expect the response of the California legislature to include cheering and high-fives. I severely doubt that California law enforcement buys any of its ammunition from Cabela’s, thus the action wouldn’t hurt law enforcement, and anything that hurts civilian arms-and-ammunition sales in California is good news to the California legislature. Most of them would ban all sales of arms and ammunition except to law enforcement, period, if they could, so I don’t really see the “threat” from Cabela’s as doing anything but encouraging them. In the eyes of the California legislature, this is just a confirmation that their planned new law works as they intend it.

  3. As a Californian I cannot say enough how much we need the help of everyone to help convince the governor to veto this bill. Living in a rural area and with the current ammo shortages, I have had to order a lot of ammo simply because I could not find it anywhere else. As a CCW permit holder, if I can’t get ammo, I can’t practice which is not a good thing. The criminals will still get ammo and get as much as they need. Remember, if it can happen here, it can happen in your state or even nationwide.

    As a California residents and responsible firearms owners, my wife and I thank you for bringing attention to this issue. Gov. Schwartzenegger needs to veto this absurd legislation now. I have written a letter to him to stop it – all readers please do the same. I would hate for this to become CA law and have other state legislatures start having ideas about this.

  5. I cannot believe that people still really believe that restricting the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens will stop the criminally minded from doing what they do everyday to get firearms, obtain ammo illegally and commit heinous crimes.

    The micro-stamping legislation passed in Calif. has the same ill conceived logic all over it. What makes them think a BG wouldn’t just grind the numbers off, replace parts of the firearm or just use a revolver? Plain and simple this type of law will only restrict law-abiding citizens who would not commit these heinous crimes in the first place.

  8. A friend of mine, that is a retired Police Officer in S.F.,Ca, emailed me an article ref this intrusive ammo bill this past week.
    I wrote the Governors office urging him to veto this ridiculous piece
    of legislation even though I am from north Arkansas.
    Legislation like this in one state CAN affect all of us, it sets a very dangerous precedent. I think it was mr Ben Franklin that said ” We must all hang together, or we will surely hang seperately.”

  9. For Cabelas to restrict ammo sales to California would be counterproductive. The bill would only ban mail order of _handgun_ ammo. If Cabelas restricted rifle and shotgun ammo sales to CA, that would only punish the shooters of CA, who have fought long and hard against this bill. It would certainly not punish the California legislators or government, who would probably think it was a good thing.

  10. This is not the first time this rectal orfice has written this type of bill, and if this bill does not go into effect, this I-D-I-O-T will write the same bill over and over. Assemblymen Kevin de Leon is not the fastest boat in the fleet.

    No it doesn’t. Reality is California’s politics are UNIQUE due to its demographics – and that shows in no other state having a congressional delegate like California’s. How many other states are states of very few but the very rich and the very poor – with an ever-smaller middle class left and net yearly flight to other states of 150,000 middle-class whites and blacks (as documented by Prof. William Frey) for decades?

  13. Three and a half years ago, I finally reached a point where I could leave that God-forsaken socialist cesspool. I continued to lobby on behalf of the folks still trapped in the PRCalifornia for a long time. Now I’m tired of trying to help people who won’t help themselves. They have the ability to clean house, put a real Governor in place – one who knows and understands the US Constitution and the CA Constitution. They just won’t get up off the couch, set down the beer and DO something about it. I have been trying for over 6 years to get my CA friends to at least make up Bug-Out-Bags. To date, not one of them has done so. They let the continuous rat race keep themselves so busy that they fail to adequately prepare for what is coming down the road – and faster in Commiefornia than most places. I’m just plain tired of trying.

    My current (and final) home state allows open carry virtually everywhere, legal open carry in vehicles and legal concealed carry outside city limits – all without any sort of “permission” from the state. Cost of living is much lower than CA. Crime is a tiny fraction of CA’s. A personal armory with fewer than 10 guns is considered inadequate, same with any ammo cache of fewer than 25K rounds. Can I get any of the CA friends to even make an effort to move? Nope. Can’t be bothered with such things….

    Sigh.

He has never had an original idea in his life, from pumping iron to padding palms. Arnold is not a guy that will ever support any organization that wants to eliminate gun control. He forgot why it was so important to him to become an American.

  19. Schwarzenegger is totally limited in the scope of what he can do by the Democrat’s overall, state-wide dominance – as exhibited by Assemblyman Mark Leno pushing forward this useless, feel-good-only, bill despite our economic woes which the Democrats have chiefly brought-on.
    Schwarzenegger can ONLY veto bills at this point, he’s been incapacitated and out-played by the moneyed and special interests in Sacramento. He’s a figurehead puppet trying to scrape together enough bits of his brief stay in Sacramento to piece together a “Legacy.”

  21. I just emailed the gov. I used to reside in Santa Monica, CA and am now in Illinois. At least I escaped Crook County. I don’t understand why people can’t rationally see these bills for what they really are.
