The recent atrocity in Paris reminds us all of the continuing danger from homicidal fanatics.  The cowardly murderers ran rampant, unopposed; according to some reports, one or both of the police officers killed in the massacre were unarmed and helpless to fight back.

President Obama is taking a lot of heat for not flying to Paris to join a reported 40 other heads of state in a show of solidarity.  This is one thing I won’t criticize the man for. If I were head of Secret Service I would have stood in the Oval Office and screamed at him, “It’s nucking futs! Can you imagine a more irresistible target for Islamic terrorists than forty-one of you, including the head of the Great Satan itself?!?”  I’m frankly amazed that there wasn’t an attack on the gathering, though I’m glad there wasn’t…and if the free world’s security services are smart, they won’t tell us if there was such a conspiracy and they were able to successfully abort it behind the scenes.

Could it have helped if someone in the Charlie Hedbo offices had been able to shoot back? No guarantees, but it damn sure wouldn’t have hurt!  My take on the matter is mentioned here among others’  http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/terrorist-attack-in-paris-newsroom-may-be-wake-up-call-for-u.s.-journalists-to-be-armed/article/2558337 .

I was able to discuss the concept earlier in more depth here, in this very Backwoods Home blog https://backwoodshome.com/blogs/MassadAyoob/2014/11/16/in-the-news/ , and here in Backwoods Home Magazine http://backwoodshome.com/articles2/ayoob150.html .

The prohibitionists and anti-self-defense groups will scoff at the idea that one or more people with handguns among the crop of victims might have thwarted two men who wielded AK47s. They don’t want to hear about Charl van Wyk, who stopped twice that many in a South African attack, armed only with his five-shot snub-nose .38 revolver. You can read about his case and more – and about dozens of helpless victims murdered when there wasn’t “a good guy (or gal) with a gun” to stand up for them – in the current issue of American Handgunner magazine:   http://americanhandgunner.com/the-false-hope-of-gun-free-zones/ .

The authorities expect more such attacks throughout the free world and, yes, here.  My advice is load, holster, and be ready.

It’s not about the odds…it’s about the stakes.

That’s enough about what I think. I want to hear what YOU think about this.

  1. Steve,

So Mayer Kahane said, “Every Jew a .22.” Maybe we could upgrade that saying to, “Every Jew a 7.62.”

    JayFH,

When watching the video footage of the terrorists shooting near their car, just standing there, and the other footage which appears to be from a second story window; that is the footage where we see the cop lying on the sidewalk. I have the same thoughts you have. What easy shots for someone with a scoped rifle. And as we know, any shots fired at them would have distracted them for a while.

In our country (USA) the cops would have been on the scene, gotten their long guns out of their car trunks, and surrounded the goblins. They would never have been able to drive 30 miles away (or whatever distance it was) to that printing factory. I am so thankful to be in a country where self-defense is taken seriously, and wonderful instruction can be had.

I even heard that Rob O’Neill (the man who shot bin Laden three times in the face) said the Parisian SWAT team was amateurish. The first man entered the Jewish Deli, and no one followed him until the shooting was over, or something like that. The sheepdogs were acting like sheep. If I remember correctly, the Mumbai India police also didn’t do an aggressive job of engaging the terrorists when they were shooting up the hospital. Attacking people in a hospital. What monsters!

  2. I am sick of the whimpering over mass murders. Je ne suis pas Charlie! Charlie should have armed himself. Charlie was a sheep, who allowed himself to be slaughtered in the name of a notion that civilized people shouldn’t have guns and therefore gave up his right to defend himself – a gun being the most efficient way to ensure the unalienable right to life. Ugly a thing as it may be, a gun gives the law-abiding citizen a fighting chance against maniacs. They made laws that translated to “sitting ducks here.” (Here we put up signs that say no guns allowed – as though criminals and maniacs obey signs! Translation: “sitting ducks here.”)

Could they have outfought the maniacs that attacked them? Maybe not. But they would have not have died in abject helplessness. What if the terrorists were met in reception by a shotgun? Even if they had body armor, a load of buckshot at close range would certainly put them off their game. A shot in an unarmored body part would stop one pretty quickly. What if twelve people all shot back? Could they have outfought them? Maybe not, but they would have sent a message back to ISIS and anyone else that we will fight. You will not terrorize us. Might they have accidentally shot each other? Maybe. But they were slaughtered anyway.

It is a war on terror and it’s time to fight back. Paris was on “lock-down” (i.e., cower in your houses). Boston was on “lock-down”. A major railway between two of America’s largest cities was shut down. How pathetic. In Israel, they don’t go on “lock-down” – they shoot the futher-muckers.

So there it is. Having blasphemed the prophet Feinstein, peace be upon her, people can now unfriend me or block my emails or whatever. You can declare a fatwa against me. But if you decide on jihad, you better sneak up behind me, because you will be met with gun fire.

God, may I never have to shoot a human being! (I don’t even ever want to shoot a varmint.) But if you put a jihadist in my path, I will assume you are designating me your appointments secretary.

Charlie Hebdo cartoonists: Rest In Peace, but you should have armed yourselves. Je ne suis pas Charlie!

  3. I hope to see a national CCW reciprocity law enacted in my lifetime so that I can go to work or on vacation outside of Pennsylvania and be armed (legally).

  4. Greg Tag,

That was me all right, in your CHL class. I was the one with the ‘DPX’ tattoo on my forehead. So no thanks are necessary.

  5. I must say that Mas has uncovered a major nerve canal with this blog! I cannot DISagree with those here who have been “inspired” by the horrors being perpetrated in Europe. Whatever your position in life, I fear there will be no one who will be immune from what now seems to be inevitable in the coming years. The real shame of the matter, in my sometimes-humble opinion, is that I believe, with my heart and soul, America would be light years more secure now had we “taken care of business” as it became obvious action must be taken (think Reagan/Libya here), one “situation” at a time. Instead, we have been interpreting glaring red flags as crimes to be taken care of by the police (World Trade Center, ’93 is a great example), rather than the terrorist acts they were/are – or, even worse, sometimes ignoring them. It would have required extreme conviction and determination, but isn’t the best country in the world worth it? It seems we have completely forgotten the overwhelming lessons paid for – in blood and lives – by brave American men and women – a pathetic legacy which makes me very sad.

  6. Hey this is kinda off the subject of Paris and please don’t get me wrong, yes I
believe in guns,In fact I have one laying on my living room floor.
But and maybe someone can address this with more brains than I have.
In Idaho right after Christmas a women who had a concelled weapons permit,
had a pistol in her purse and was at Wal-Mart with some kids. Her 2 year old
son opened the purse and took out the gun and killed his mother.
One thing that I see is that so many women leave there purses in there shopping carts. That is so wrong. My sister-in-law did that in California and
turned away for a second and someone stole her purse right out of the cart and
I don’t think that they ever got the purse back. It had her credit cards and
keys and every thing in it.So regardkess if you have a gun in your purse,
please, please do not leave the purse in the cart at all
    Blessings
    Debby
