Hanza, a regular commenter here, alerted me to the following from Huffington Post:

O…M…G.  If that had made my eyes roll any more, I would have needed an emergency appointment with an ophthalmologist.

Hanza notes that it does not seem to mention that white racism in the South was associated more with Democrats than Republicans.

I couldn’t help but notice that the African-American reporter himself was suspicious of the story.  Nor that our peace-loving friends at Huffington Post begin with an ad for Call To Duty, at least when I saw it. (They apparently rotate the ads.)

Study is HERE.  A study by the same folks saying why you can’t trust research like this is HERE.

Open for discussion.

  1. Hello Massad, I am afraid a bit that both links under “HERE” are the same link. If it is on purpose I have not get the punchline of it.

  2. Thats right Mas, all us creepy ass crackas that own guns are racist! I’ve probably arrested more Arien Brotherhood, Neo Nazi wanabees then black gangbangers but thats probably just more “inconclusive data not relitave to this study”.

  3. Interesting. I did a fast search for “Ku Klux Klan”, and the 2nd item (after the mandatory Wiki entry” was this, from the History Channel website:

    http://www.history.com/topics/ku-klux-klan
“Founded in 1866, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) extended into almost every southern state by 1870 and became a vehicle for white southern resistance to the Republican Party’s Reconstruction-era policies aimed at establishing political and economic equality for blacks. Its members waged an underground campaign of intimidation and violence directed at white and black Republican leaders. Though Congress passed legislation designed to curb Klan terrorism, the organization saw its primary goal–the reestablishment of white supremacy–fulfilled through Democratic victories in state legislatures across the South in the 1870s. After a period of decline, white Protestant nativist groups revived the Klan in the early 20th century, burning crosses and staging rallies, parades and marches denouncing immigrants, Catholics, Jews, blacks and organized labor. The civil rights movement of the 1960s also saw a surge of Ku Klux Klan activity, including bombings of black schools and churches and violence against black and white activists in the South.”

  4. I’m just wondering if the size of my own personal gun collection qualifies me to be an Honorary Grand Dragon, or just an Imperial Wizard…

  5. I’ve seen this one. The “study” is designed to produce the desired conclusion: that gun owners are racists. The methods are questionable (at best) and they overlook several glaring inconsistencies and numerous refuting facts – I assume intentionally. It’s the only valid explanation; the authors cite opposing viewpoints (e.g. Gary Kleck et al) but refute them with viewpoints (e.g. the infamous Kellerman study) so thoroughly debunked that those authors (Kellerman et al) won’t acknowledge their own work.

I’ve also heard – and I’m starting to believe it – that PLOS One is where you get your “peer-reviewed” article published if you don’t have enough “peer-review” (read: credibility) to publish anywhere else.

In other words, it’s the “scholarly” journal with the lowest bar for entry, and anything published there should be taken not only with a grain of salt, but also a slice of lime and a shot of tequila.

  6. These people are as developmentally primitive in their thinking as they are bigoted. Liberals are firm proponents of the defense mechanism of projection.

  7. The first article is unworthy of attention. It uses the term “symbolic racism” (referenced 51 times) as an excuse for the failure of some blacks to achieve success. It is a shame that some people find it necessary to look beyond themselves to explain their failures.

  8. It would have been interesting if this study had been conducted with people, who recently took an unarmed self defense class. I believe, the results would have been similar in so far as the methodology is valid.

You take a group, who is concerned about their safety and you will probably also have a group that follows the news in regard to criminal activity. The statistics indicate a higher violent crime rate among Blacks, especially young Black males. Statistics also indicate that serial killers are mainly White males.

So yes, if I am concerned about being mugged on the street I will be especially aware of young Black males, and if a serial killer is on the loose I will be especially aware of White males. This does not mean I think all Black are muggers or White males serial killers. It does mean I profile, but hopefully not to the extreme of ignore potential White muggers.

  9. I’ve had guns all my life and it had nothing to do with any minorities. I grew up in rural VA and blacks and whites are respectful of each other. We are neighbors and often friends even before integration of schools. This is an insulting argument that does not take into account any other variables. My gun is for defense against any intruder and it can see what color you are in the dark of night

  10. Anyone familiar with the Bill O’Reilly show will know Mark Lamont Hill. As a very well educated person (either a doctor or a professor) he never fairs well when debating O’Reilly on left verses right subjects. I don’t subscribe to O’Reilly’s view on gun control as he is a born and bred Levitt Town New Yorker which has colored much of his perception weapons. Mark Lamont Hill has a typical leftist distorted view of guns. Hill is usually fairly moderate unless the subject involves perceived racism or guns then he slips the tether and falls over-board. The accusation of racism is probably the most used leftist, male bovine excreta, descriptor used they can’t argue the facts.

  11. So we white gun owners are afraid of blacks and stereotype them as violent.

Yet we are the ones opposed to gun control laws that could be used, or misused, to disarm blacks; and opposed to doing away with stand-your-ground laws, which will make it easier for prosecutors to use discretion to punish blacks for self-defense.

I’m afraid the PLOS bias that gun control is obviously good policy and will solve all sorts of social problems, has led them into a cognitive disconnect.

  12. Gun control proponents have a problem — most Americans are prepared to leave their neighbors alone if the courtesy is returned. And it’s hard to portray gun owners as a menace to society — crime statistics suggest that concealed carry permit holders are a particularly law-abiding bunch.

So what we’re seeing is a desperate attempt to find _some_ way to portray gun owners as deserving of contempt. My impression is that gun control advocates are trying to rally their own liberal base here, since more empirically-minded liberals tend to believe that the highly questionable benefits of gun control are not worth substantial political risk.

  13. The cun control machine has no qualms about publishing lies.

Remember that their ultimate goal is to eliminate gun ownership in the US.

This has already been accomplished in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Articles like just allow the anti gun ownership to assign prejudices to groups they wish the populace to destroy.

    Hitler did this.

Additionally the article distracts those who believe in gun rights from keeping on point. One cannot defend the second ammendment if one is busy trying to deny racism.

    I personally oppose raciism.

Remeber the Alamo and Forget the White House.

  14. This is a technique used by propogandists. Paint your opponents as a threat to other minorities groups within a larger society and let those groups fight and weaken each other. Meanwhile the political machine becomes stronger.

Joeseph Goebbels did this most effectively for Hitler.

    I deplore racism.

Those who oppose the 2nd Ammendment really do want to take all your guns regardless of your race, religion or national origin.

    Remember the Alamo.

    Forget the White House.

  15. The study had to define “racist” of course. How do you determine if someone is a racist? You have to ask them of course.

If you read the questions they ask the study participants to determine if they are racist, you find they have combined/confused ‘ignorant’ ‘ill-informed’ and ‘stereotyping’ with racism…automatically.

There is no discussion on the validation process they used to determine if their questions should be considered valid for the purposes of determining racism. Good grief!! That is absolutely fundamental in any study involving human participants and survey questions.

So, as Archer said, design the study to give you the results you were hoping for.

  16. I tried to read it with a neutral mind, got almost 1/2 way through it. Biased gibberish.
Liberals detest Black People, they don’t want Blacks to have guns while they themselves own and carry guns or hire armed escorts .

If liberals had any respect for the law and human dignity there would be no difference in Black/White crime numbers, liberals create the environment in which Blacks pursue violent criminal lifestyles.

  17. Don’t believe that all the racist talk is on the left. Today there is a growing slice of the right preaching the “old white men ” gotta go meme. Fox news has been the vehicle for folks like “new black conservative ” Crystal Wright. I predict the Rinos will shake in their tennis shoes at this and the BIG TENT will become terrified of white men in any discussion. White men will be seen as cause of all evil.

  18. If someone hands you a gun, its a sign of ultimate trust. You may not agree with them, but you trust them with your life.

Most pro-gun people would gladly like to overturn gun bans in urban areas, which by the way are dominated by black people. Yes, pro-gun people would let black people in Baltimore openly carry guns. Not just the drug dealers, regular people too.

I think we should ask ourselves who the true racists are that they do not trust urban dwellers to behave like free men.

  19. Phil Wong, These folks will tell you your gun collection is an Asian Phallic Symbol! To which, please proudly produce your snubbie back-up .38!

  20. So on my klan application form do I have to mention that I am black ? Maybe it doesn’t matter as long as I believe in the 2nd amendment.

  21. Interesting that they had to fall back on the new construct called ‘symbolic racism’ because they can’t find evidence of genuine racism.

It would also appear that one is to be defined as racist if one supports policies like the death penalty that have ‘disparate’ impact on minorities. So, in principle, it would be possible to be racist without even knowing it. If, for example, one was unaware of the so-called ‘disparate impact’ one could then be categorized as racist on the basis of death penalty support.

Label or be labeled as Thomas Szasz used to say.

  22. These ignoramuses forget that there’s not one type of gun owner. I’ve seen all kinds of people at the gun range, I even met a liberal who loves shooting but won’t join the NRA (fool who thinks the Second Amendment survives without advocacy).

The only real racists are those who disarm the races, simple as that. If you’re not a racist, you don’t take people’s guns away.

  23. Keith Green, I would hazard a guess that the Klan would more likely accept you as a brother than a liberal/progressive would agree to your being an armed, free, and self sufficient black man.

I deplore any group that judges a man by the color of his skin, whether its a supremacy group or a political ideology that assumes a man is unable to control himself and be trusted to be armed, black or white.

The “Bill of Rights” is all about freedom and liberty, the liberal/progressives are all about control and would enslave all of us if they could just convince us it’s for our own good.

  24. I regret my slow internet connection here at the lake. I’ll have to check this out tomorrow. Who ever suggested a grain of salt, a lime and a shot of tequila… I agree on general principle. Oh, am I a reverse racist because, as a white gun owner, the only occasions I’ve found it necessary to draw my weapon has been against other white people? I thought it was simply because they were intoxicated or high and “chose” to pose a threat. Maybe I should have posted a notice asking only black or Latino folk to kick down my door in the middle of the night. Sorry for the preemptive sarcasm. The I’m a teacher and the holidays aren’t getting here soon enough.

  25. I think that we are missing the point here; if we can be labeled as being racist and if the popular media picks it up, then we would lose the support of our friends in Congress as well as the state legislatures. Anti-gun legislation would soon follow. Nothing frightens a politician as much as being associated with a supposed racist.

  26. I can’t help but notice the difference between the informed, educated posts I read here, and the stupid, government-uneducated, American voter who will nod their heads to whatever garbage the leftist media pours into their minds. Government of the people, by the people, and for the people depends on the people making wise, informed decisions. Many Americans can no longer do that.

I want to mention something about “financial success.” I often hear that success is the result of hard work. This is false. Success is the result of pleasing the market. If I chop wood with an axe in my back yard, I’ll be working hard, but I won’t be pleasing the market, and I won’t make any money. The hardest working people in the world are slaves, and they are not successful. If my heart is set on one career, but market forces don’t see any need for me in that career, then I will fail. Success will come when my talents and gifts are desired and needed by the market. So, the market determines winners and losers, not hard work. (Business minded people sense this naturally, but artsy people are blinded by their love of art, or whatever. I speak from experience.)

  27. I really enjoy reading this stuff, some of it definitely fires me up. Hope to have something worthwhile to say later on. Being an automatic weapons guy for two years I am learning to much about handguns and shotguns and getting better all the time. Until next time…
